Simmons College Hillel Community Service Project
for Cradles to Crayons
Simmons College Hillel volunteered at Boston’s Cradles to Crayons, an organization that collects school supplies, clothing, toys and hygiene essentials for infants and children. In preparation, they held a donation drive and collected over 15 boxes of clothes and supplies! On April 9th, Simmons Hillel students and a staff member volunteered at the facility assembling care kits for those in need.
Abby Shifren, Project Organizer and Hillel Treasurer said, “When we were brainstorming community service project ideas, our goal was to become more involved with the Boston community. We are so privileged and fortunate, it’s so humbling to give back.” Hillel reached out to the students, the Alumnae Association as well as the Simmons faculty and staff. “This has blossomed into something bigger than we ever imagined! We struggled with doing a project not necessarily Jewish focused, but we wanted to have a big impact on those in need, and after all mitzvah is a mitzvah! It was gratifying putting the specific kits together but very sad when a requested item, like rainboots couldn’t be fulfilled.” The Simmons Hillel Student Board plans to make this an annual community service project.
